Welcome!

At the Hennepin Healthcare Research Institute (HHRI), we have been actively finding answers to the health problems of our patients since 1952. We support and oversee the medical research conducted at the Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC), an acute care research and teaching hospital. In an academic environment that emphasizes patient care, research and teaching, HHRI helps offer patients better care now and hope for improved healthcare in the future.

HHRI is the third largest medical research non-profit in Minnesota and ranks in the top 7 percent nationally of all institutions receiving research grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). While public monies support a majority of our research, our work would not be possible without the support of corporate and individual donors.

We have active research programs in Amyotropic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), Alternative Medicine, Brain & Immune Disorders, Cancer, Children's Issues, Cognitive Issues in Aging/Geriatrics, Diabetes & Metabolism, Emergency Medicine, Foods for Well-Being, Gastrointestinal & Liver Disease, Heart Disease, HIV/AIDS, Huntington's Disease, International Medicine, Kidney Disease, Orthopaedics, Organ Transplantation, Outcomes Research, Sleep Disorders, Tobacco Dependence, Traumatic Brain Injury, and Trauma & Burn.
